A survey was conducted on 50 adults. 34 of them liked fish, 29 of them liked chicken, and 2 of them did not like both :P.
A.) How many adults liked BOTH CHICKEN AND FISH?
B.) How many adults liked ONLY CHICKEN?
Answer:
A. 15 adults liked them both
To get how many adults like both chicken & fish, add the # of adults who liked the fish, chicken and who didnt like them both. (34+29+2 = 65)
But since the survey only asked 50 adults, we subtract 50 from 65 (65-50=15), which gives us the excess of 15, that represents the adults who liked them both.
B. 14 adults only liked chicken.
Since we were given that 15 adults liked both chicken, we can subtract 15 from the number of people who liked chicken to find the # of adulta who ONLY liked chicken. (29-15 =14)
To check:
(34-15) + (29-15) + 2 + 15 = 50 adults in all
